Jason, I emailed you a few days ago, but haven't heard anything back. If you see this, try emailing me at the address listed on the members list, and we'll see if we can get in touch.
could the president please contact Jason Hosler with raging gargoyle games? I have a question for you in regards to the game we will be running at Ukon.
The Miskatonic Student Union is the University of Kentucky's roleplaying club. We meet Wednesdays, at 7pm, in the Student Center of UK, in room 106 aka Center for Student Involvement.
Our focus is in roleplaying, but we also encourage board games, video games, card game, Live action roleplaying, MMORPGs, or anything else geeky. Feel free to come visit us.
You can contact our president at -email- or leave a message on the forums.
That's the end of the semester, folks! I hope everyone had a good time this year, and here's hoping for all the good times yet to come. GenCon is coming up in August, and that's always a good time. Even if you're not coming with the official club trip, you should at least try to make it up to Indy for a day--you could spend that much time just wandering through the dealers' room. ^_^
We've got a good crew lined up for next year, and I can't wait to see what they've got in store for us. So, without further ado, I hereby step down as president of the Miskatonic Student Union and hand it off to my successor, Zach Purol. It's not like I'm disappearing into the wilderness or anything, though; I'll still be around to dispense elderly-type wisdom when necessary. Still, Zach's a great guy, he's been a great officer, and I have no doubt that he'll be a great president.
Good luck to all of you, and have a good summer!
Sincerely, Jeremy Puckett [Submitted by hida_jiremi]

Well, it's been a fun year, hasn't it? Between a record-attendance UKON, a bunch of new members, some great connections with other groups, and generally a wild ride, it's hard to imagine that there's less than a month left in the school year. Still, as we approach the end of the year (and the end of my presidency), we still have more things to do!
Coming up on April 21 and 22, running from 8am to 5pm on the second floor of the Student Center, we will be having a club bake sale. This event will be the last fundraiser of the year, with brownies, cookies and more provided by handy-dandy Miskie cooks. Prices will be reasonable and quality will be high! Stop by for a snack, or just to say hi to the club members working the table.
April 29 will be the year's final Miskie Funday, at which we will be watching good video game movies and ordering pizza on the club dime. Location has yet to be determined, but it's likely that it will be at the same place as last time.
Finally, we're looking at Saturday, May 2, as the MSU year-end barbecue. Every year, we go out to Woodland Park, grab a grill, buy some raw meat, and cook it up into food for the club. This year will be especially cool, since we're going to have a special celebrity guest: Keith Baker, the creator of Eberron! If there turns out to be inclement weather or other problems, we'll change the schedule, but for now we'll be meeting at 2pm in Woodland Park at the picnic shelter. Bring along fun things, like boffer weapons and nerf guns!
With the kind of effort and dedication that we've seen this year, I have no doubt that next year will be even better! Keep up the good work! And thanks for all the hard work so far! Summer's almost here!

Coming up this week is the recently-minted holiday for geeks, Game Master's Day. This day, celebrated every year since 2005 or so, gives players a chance to give back to the GMs that have given them so much enjoyment. So, on March 4 (which happens to be this Wednesday!), take a few minutes to track down your favorite GM and let him or her know how much their game means to you. Say thanks, or give a small gift; lots of online stores (including rpgnow.com) are having huge sales for GM's Day.
Remember, without a game master, there is no game!
UKON is over! (For this year, anyway.) And I have to say that it was a real blast!
I would like to take a moment here to thank everyone who made this year's UKON so successful. Without the contributions of so many different people, we couldn't have put on nearly the event that we did. I want to thank, in no particular order:
Our officers
Mayling Yap and Greg Chandler
Raging Gargoyle Games
The Camarilla
The Lexington D&D Meetup Group
Our wonderful sponsors: Chaosium, ToyVault, Crafty Games, and Collectibles Etc.
93 Games Studio
The Green County Sci-Fi and Gaming Club
UK Anime
and everyone else who made UKON so wonderful!
This will be the last year I am going to be personally involved in running and organizing UKON, so it was good to go out on a high note. After ten years of being involved with the MIskatonic Student Union, and as many UKONs, I think it will be nice in the future just to be able to kick back and relax when February rolls around.
It's been great, guys. I only hope that it continues to get better.

This Friday and Saturday will see the tenth annual UKON gaming convention put on by the Miskatonic Student Union. For those that don't recall, the dates are Friday, February 27, from 5pm to 10pm; and Saturday, February 28, from 10am to midnight. We're going to have a ton of events lined up for the convention. If you're a registered forum user, you can cruise on over to the Official Business forum and take a look at the official schedule of events, as well as the updated schedule for our annual movie room, the Theater of Pain!
Featured events at this year's convention include not one but two high-stakes Super Smash Brothers Brawl tournaments on Saturday, a Camarilla-featured game of the month LARP that spans both days of the convention, and a free-entry Texas Hold'em tournament! We're trying all sort of new events this year, and hope that people stop by them. We're revamping our Artists Alley, featuring some of the finest artists in the Bluegrass region, and will be holding our gaming auction Saturday evening due to demand for extra time for registration.
UKON is always a blast, so if you're going to be in the Lexington area this weekend, try to stop by. At only 5 dollars a day, it's one of the most affordable conventions you'll ever attend, and it's well worth the price for the amount of entertainment we're offering.
We hope to see you there! [Submitted by hida_jiremi]

Tonight's officer elections went smoothly. After my choosing to not seek re-election, we were very fortunate to have dedicated members step up to fill my absence. I would like to take a moment in this news post to thank the members of MSU for making my time with the club so enjoyable and for giving me the chance to build a larger community of gamers.
Our crop of officers for next year is (drum roll):
Zach Purol, President Matt Spradling, Vice President Rob Waltman, Secretary/Treasurer
Good luck, guys! We're all behind you!
Also, I want to remind everyone that UKON is only three weeks away! Now is the time to buckle down, find ways to pitch in and help out, and get ready for what may turn out to be our biggest UKON ever. I've been informed by our liaison with the Camarilla that the Vampire LARP at UKON has now been approved as the Camarilla game of the month, which is going to be a huge draw! We have not one, but two Super Smash Brothers Brawl tournaments going on Saturday! And finally, our last shipment of prize support came in, bringing our total volume of prize support from gaming companies to over a thousand dollars!
This is shaping up to be the best UKON ever, and it wouldn't have gotten here if not for the contributions of members, affiliates, and officers alike. Let's just keep it up through the home stretch, and we can all relax when it's done!

It's that time of year again: officer elections! Next Wednesday, February 6, we will be having final nominations and open elections for MSU officers. Every voting member should attend if possible to cast your vote.
As a note for all of the voting members: If, for some reason, you can't make this Wednesday's meeting, please email me at -email- with your in absentia votes. You have voting privileges, and you should exercise them! Hopefully, there will be a list of nominees up on the listserv before the next meeting so that you can direct your in absentia votes more directly. Remember as well that you can give your vote to another member by proxy if you feel comfortable allowing them to cast your vote for you. I have to have email confirmation of a proxy before the meeting on Wednesday, however.
Otherwise, if you're not working, sick, or out of town, you should try to make the next meeting. It's an important event, and one that every member should try to be part of. Even if you're an affiliate (non-voting member), you should still attend, since you're allowed to participate in discussion and debate even if you can't vote.
See you on Wednesday!

Edit: Officer elections pushed back to February 6 due to inclement weather. Keep safe!

As many of you are aware, we're only a couple of months away from MSU's annual gaming convention, UKON. This year, UKON will be held on Friday, February 27, from 5pm to 10pm; and Saturday, February 28, from 10am to midnight. The convention will be held in its usual place, the Grand Ballroom of the UK Student Center, with events spilling out into adjoining rooms and the first-floor Cat's Den. Admission is five dollars per day, and parking is free.
Every year, UKON attracts several hundred people from all across the Bluegrass region. It's a real blast, and if you haven't come before and have time this year, you should. We've got tabletop roleplaying from some of the best Game Masters in Lexington (and beyond), demos of new and interesting games, an artists alley showcasing some of the finest art local talents, a vendor area with gaming dealers from near and far, and a host of unique gaming events, including the Gamer Spelling Bee, the World Series of Geek Culture Trivia, and the UKON Auction.
If you're interested in participating in this year's UKON as more than just an attendee, drop us a line at president@ukmsu.com. We accept registration for vendors, artists, and special media guests until January 15, but we only accept registration for gaming events until December 31. Pre-registering your game gets you in free on that day of UKON, as well as giving you a chance to showcase your gaming talents for a wider audience than you might normally get.
UKON 2009 is also a very special event for the Miskatonic Student Union in other ways. This year, we celebrate 20 years on the University of Kentucky campus, and ten years of UKON. After nearly a decade, the stars are right... for a party! We sincerely hope that you'll join us for this occasion--and bring a friend!

It was so much fun, we're doing it again!
On Friday, December 5, the Miskatonic Student Union will be hosting a Super Smash Brothers tournament in room 206 of the Student Center. Registration for the tournament will open at 4pm, with the tournament set to start at 5pm. Admission is 5 dollars, with a cash prize to be given out at the end of the tournament.
The last one of these we ran drew almost 80 people, so it's bound to be a blast! Show up and show off your Smashing skills! [Submitted by hida_jiremi]
